US Premiere
Documentary Feature | USA | 2024 | Russian/Russian Sign Language/Ukrainian | 91 minutes
Viktor, a young deaf man in Kharkiv, eagerly seeks purpose during the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. A fan of samurai films and raised on stories of war, he dreams of joining the fight. When the army repeatedly denies his attempts to enlist, he embarks on a quest to find his place in the ongoing conflict. Directed by veteran war cinematographer Olivier Sarbil and one of the rare documentaries to premiere in TIFF’s prestigious Platform section, VIKTOR intricately weaves stunning black-and-white imagery with innovative sound design to interpret with profound veracity Viktor’s own experience of a war he cannot hear.
