Refugees Chatila (Mahmood Bakri) and Reda (Aram Sabbagh) exist in limbo in Athens, committing petty crimes to pay for fake passports to get into the EU. When Reda’s drug addiction loses them their hard-earned savings, Chatila hatches a risky plan: pose as smugglers to take advantage of people just like themselves. At first, their dream has never felt more possible, but the desperation they seek to exploit soon unlocks new dangers. Palestinian-Danish director Mahdi Fleifel’s debut narrative feature premiered to acclaim at Cannes, revealing through gripping storytelling and tender relationships the profound cost of the loss of a homeland. A Watermelon Pictures release.
