New York Premiere
Narrative Feature | USA | 2024 | English | 79 minutes
In Anu Valia’s enthralling feature directorial debut—developed in part at the HIFF Screenwriters Lab in 2018—the clever and adaptable Rayelle Martin (Kirby, 'Killing Eve') accepts a new position as a housekeeper for wealthy clients. At first just an observer, Ray impulsively tells one small lie that fascinates her employers: she can speak to the dead. As Ray becomes entangled in her employers’ lives, she finds herself in odd and intoxicating positions of power. With a fresh voice and a keen eye, Valia has crafted a tense and provocative exploration of class and race in middle America.
