Based on the novella of the same name by Georgy Demidov, TWO PROSECUTORS riveted audiences at Cannes with its unflinching look at the quiet brutality of totalitarian power. In the 1937 Soviet Union, amidst the Stalinist purges, a smuggled letter reaches young prosecutor Alexander Kornyev (Aleksandr Kuznetsov). Upon meeting the prisoner who wrote the letter, Kornyev uncovers a systematic abuse of power by secret police in his home district. A dedicated Bolshevik of integrity, Kornyev resolves to seek justice. Director Sergei Loznitsa pits idealism against the grit of corruption in this slow-burn political fable. A Sideshow/Janus release.
