Under the dictatorship of 1977 Brazil, technology expert Marcelo (Wagner Moura) is on the run. He arrives at a safe house for dissidents in Recife during the week of Carnival hoping to reunite with his estranged son, but soon discovers that the city is far from the non-violent refuge he seeks. Brazilian auteur Kleber Menonça Filho (BACURAU) delivers a stylish thriller of mythic proportions—complete with assassins, severed legs, and a two-faced cat—that took home both the Best Director Award at Cannes and the Best Actor Award for Moura’s exceptional performance.
