US Premiere Narrative Feature | Belgium/Germany/Poland | 2025 | German, English | 112 minutes
Jazz legend Keith Jarrett’s one-hour, entirely improvised performance in January 1975 would go on to become the best-selling solo album in jazz history—but it nearly didn’t happen. HIFF alum Ido Fluk (THE TICKET, 2016) uncovers the against-the-odds powerhouse force behind the concert: teenage up-and-coming concert promoter Vera Brandes (Mala Emde). Starting with nothing but a fierce passion for music and infectious ambition, she breaks away from her conservative family into the wild jazz scene of the 70s, where she meets Jarrett (a magnetic John Magaro, PAST LIVES) and must convince him to make history. A Zeitgeist Films release.
A Q&A with director Ido Fluk and subject Vera Brandes is expected to follow both screenings.
