YANUNI

Air Land & Sea
Back To Film Guide

Documentary Feature | Austria/Brazil/Canada/Germany/USA | 2025 | Portuguese | 112 minutes

HIFF alum Richard Ladkani (THE IVORY GAME, 2016) returns with this riveting cinematic portrait of Juma Xipaia, a charismatic Indigenous chief from the remote Brazilian Amazon who rises to the global frontlines of climate justice. After surviving six assassination attempts, she becomes Brazil’s first Secretary of Indigenous Rights while her husband, a federal environmental agent, leads dangerous operations against illegal gold mines deep in the rainforest. As Juma navigates political power, growing threats, and impending motherhood, she confronts the personal cost of resistance. At once intimate and epic, YANUNI is a powerful story of Indigenous sovereignty, love, and the urgent fight to protect the planet we call home.

A Q&A with director Richard Ladkani is expected to follow both screenings.
