The stately, childhood home of writer Julietta Singh is rich with history in its carefully restored architecture and ties to Winnipeg’s past. But when Singh’s aging mother decides to sell the house, lesser-known chapters of its history, all anchored by resilient women, come to light. Singh guides us through the lives of the brave women—Indigenous, Deaf, Japanese, and more—who resisted oppression while living in this inherently colonial home at different moments in history. Above all, THE NEST compassionately demonstrates the importance of reaching mutual understanding and chronicling untold histories to achieve collective progress.
