World Cinema Narrative
Back To Film Guide

Narrative Feature | Denmark/France/Iceland/Sweden | 2025 | Icelandic, Swedish, French | 109 minutes

HIFF alum Hlynur Pálmason (A WHITE, WHITE DAY, 2019) returns with this portrait of a year in the life of an Icelandic family as parents Anna (Saga Garðarsdóttir) and Magnús (Sverrir Guðnason) navigate their separation. Premiering to acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival, THE LOVE THAT REMAINS cinematically positions the characters within the natural beauty of their surroundings to evoke the vibrant inner world of each character and their complex but deeply felt affection for each other. Through playful and heartfelt moments, Pálmason portrays the bittersweet nature of faded love and shared memories amidst the changing seasons. A Sideshow/Janus release.
