How can there be music in the worst place in the world? 99-year-old Holocaust survivor Anita Lasker-Wallfisch’s experience as a cellist imprisoned at Auschwitz opens up a larger examination of the complex and surprising role of music during the Holocaust. This emotionally moving documentary features both the testimonies of survivors through archival interviews and new performances of music created by camp victims filmed in locations around Auschwitz. THE LAST MUSICIAN OF AUSCHWITZ investigates how music became a conduit for prisoners of all faiths to survive and resist the atrocities of war. A BBC Select release.
A Q&A with director Toby Trackman is expected to follow both screenings.
